Sustainability as cornerstone in building a new warehouse
June 2019 – Roerink Food Family is building for its future in Oldenzaal. There, a sustainable new warehouse and offices were built. The construction of the new warehouse and offices has been a long-cherished desire, which suits the vision on sustainability well. To make the distribution more efficient, the former warehouses in Holten and Raalte have moved to Oldenzaal.
The warehouse in Oldenzaal now serves as the centre for packaging and delivery for De Dessert Meesters and sister company Zuivelhoeve in Twekkelo, the Netherlands. The ice cream production for De Dessert Meesters takes place here as well.
BREEAM
The warehouse and offices now meet the strict restrictions of sustainability assessment method BREEAM. The building obtained the predicate ‘excellent’. This internationally recognized instrument measures and assesses how sustainable buildings are. Moreover, BREEAM is a certified and objective method. This method helps focusing on sustainability during the building process.
During the building process, concerns like health, use of energy, transport, waste, the environment and use of water got special attention. Instead of gas, solar panels are now used to meet energy demands. The freezing warehouse is CO2-neutral. Residual heat is used to heat the offices and water.
